What are the desired outcomes of I3X-2?
-
SMAR3TS project partner - UPC BarcelonaTech and its R2EM are working on the development of processes for market assessment - LCA and regulatory assessment in the sectors of nutrition and energy. Technologies are currently on TRL 3-4 levels and can be further developed to TRL 5-6.
-
This I3X challenge invites research and innovation talent within the SMAR3TS project to validate bioactive polyphenols for smart filmed food packaging, purification processes, life-cycle assessment (LCA), techno-economic assessment (TEA), as well as seawater desalination, carbon and utilization, and on-site chemical production.
What skills and capabilities (across disciplines) would be beneficial for I3X-2?
-
Business model evaluation analysis
-
Research on food supplementary materials, animal feed application, sustainable food packaging, food materials
Examples of Challenges that need to be addressed for I3X-2?
-
Recovery of polyphenols, fivers, sugars' valorization
-
Assessment of biomedical applications in pharma industry
-
Development of digital tools (e.g. digital passport for electric vehicles' (EV) batteries in the EU) - how can it be applied for the waste that is vaporized?
-
Regulatory assessment for waste material treatment
-
Water treatment
-
Business case analysis and scalability assessment; techno-economic analysis
I3X-2 Alignment to R3 - Resilience, Restoration, Regeneration
Restoration
-
Recovery and reuse of critical raw materials for the future of mobility
-
Maximizing water reuse and water recovery through smart, circular and integrated solutions for sustainable energy use and production
Regeneration
-
Regenerative food production and recycling
-
Regeneration processes in the pyrometallurgical industry
