SMAR3TS Secondments

What is a Secondment?

A Secondment is an exchange of research and innovation staff to collaborate between university and industry. All full-time staff members from our partner institutions actively involved in research and innovation activities can undertake secondments. Secondments will support the advancement of the ~24 INNOVATE3X (I3X) across socio-technical transitions in 4 key areas of Human Need: Nutrition, Mobility, Energy and Housing.

*Secondments must be:

  • International: between different countries

  • Intersectoral: take place from Academia to Industry and viceversa

However, secondments to Third Countries (Thailand, Mauritius and Australia) can be from the same sector (Academia to Academia)

Where can you go on a secondment?

SMAR3TS’ Consortium is composed of 34 partners, across 16 countries (and 4 continents).

How to plan your secondment?

Plan your visit

Approach your local SMAR3TS contact person (the project representative at your organisation), your future host and Work Package Leader to define the secondment period, duration (minimum 30 days) and work plan.
If you don't know who the contact person is, reach out to us (info@smar3ts.eu) and we will introduce you to them!

Before the secondment

Your local SMAR3TS representative must add your researcher’s profile and draft your Mobility Declaration on the European Commission Participant Portal to get your identification number.

Important: make sure the dates entered in the Mobility Declaration correspond to your actual stay and can be verified!

Send to info@smar3ts.eu:

  • A profile picture for SMAR3TS website and other communication tools.

  • A short bio or summary of your research interests.

  • The signed Release Form where you consent to promote your profile on SMAR3TS media.

After the secondment

Send us within 1 month:

  • Your Secondment agreement signed by you, the sending organisation and the host organisation, including your Work Plan and Data Management Plan.

  • Weekly minutes signed by you and your host.

  • A testimony from your secondment for SMAR3TS Media (reflecting on how you have contributed to I3X and how the secondment has impacted your career).

  • The Funding request signed and stamped by the sending organisation – this is the official document for requesting the funding for each secondment.

Note:

Once your Mobility Declaration is drafted, we will provide your personalised template for each of these supporting documents. It is your responsibility to ensure that the information reported is accurate and complies with SMAR3TS Grant Agreement and the European Commission funding conditions

Make sure you record all supporting documents and evidence for up to 5 years after the end of SMAR3TS project, including all original travel documents, clearly showing the starting and return dates.

  • Delays in receiving the supporting documents will lead to extra delays for the payment of the allowance.
